Whole(not so)30

I have a confession. We did not make it the whole 30 days on Whole30. But I don't feel too bad about it, because the 22ish days that we did make it were about as strict as it gets--I even passed on a baked apple with cinnamon on it at a friend's house because I was worried it would trigger a sugar craving. I drank an insane amount of unsweetened tea, which is a big deal for me because traditionally I mostly enjoy tea as a vehicle for honey, and I used ghee and bacon grease instead of olive oil or Read more [...]

Drop-in WOD #3: CrossFit Invictus

On Saturday, the final day of our week-long trip to San Diego, we decided to venture into the city and do a WOD at CrossFit Invictus. Unlike the other two gyms, which we either Googled or just happened to walk by, we knew of Invictus because of its reputation for having some world-class coaches and turning out some killer competitors. So coming from a wonderful but small and not terribly technical gym and walking into the giant warehouse that is Invictus, I was more than a little nervous. Once Read more [...]

Quarter Life Crisis

I have a lot to catch you guys up on, like our drop-in WOD at CrossFit Invictus and our triumphant return to the land of sugar and grains after our Whole30 (which ended up being more of a Whole24.5...), but today is my 25th birthday, so I thought it was time for a little introspection. Get excited. For some reason, 25 feels like kind of a big deal, and not just because people keep saying, "Ooh you're turning 25! Thats a big deal!" The first quarter of my life is over, and it feels like it's Read more [...]

A Week in Southern California Through the Eyes of My iPhone

And, last but not least, THIS is where we had Thanksgiving dinner (complete with Old Timey Whorehouse Saloon décor and a waitress dressed in fishnets and a sparkly bustier). But what it lacked in class, it made up for in delicious gravy. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. We had a pretty amazing week and I have so much to be thankful for, as always... I mean, I was able to spend time with my family, climb, surf, and CrossFit all in one vacation. I'd Read more [...]

Drop-in WOD #2: Offshore CrossFit

Last night we headed over to Offshore Crossfit and joined them for a WOD they called "Legs for Days." After doing Cindy, we were both wrecked in our upper bodies, so we were pretty excited to see that the programming was front squats and then 3 RFT of 9 front squats (95/65), 15 walking lunges, 9 squat jumps, and 15 jumping lunges. I failed to take into account what that actually meant for my life, which is that today, my entire body is utterly useless. After wandering around a warehouse complex Read more [...]

Drop-in WOD #1: US CrossFit

If you follow me on Facebook, you know that yesterday morning was sort of a rollercoaster of emotions about our first ever out-of-town drop-in WOD. At first I was excited, especially after seeing US CrossFit's space on Sunday and falling in love with their enormous sunny courtyard full of rowers and pull-up bars. I was also really excited to do a benchmark WOD (Cindy) and see how it felt at sea level, since Denver's elevation is about 5300 feet. But then I started to get really nervous. I'm Read more [...]
