21DSD Day 4

Almost 1/5 of the way done with this dang detox! Can you tell I’m counting the days?

To be fair, Day 3 was nowhere near as bad as Day 2. I did find myself, err, running to the bathroom a few times, mostly I think because my body is not used to having such fibrous veggies for breakfast instead of apples and smoothies, but otherwise the day went pretty well. Here is what my menu yesterday looked like:

Breakfast: 3 scrambled eggs, sautéed sweet potatoes and asparagus

Snack: Almonds

Lunch: Cocoa beef chili, similar to this recipe.

Post-WOD: A big carrot and 1 can of coconut water. I usually can’t stand straight coconut water but it was a really rough WOD and it definitely hit the spot.

Dinner (about 10 minutes after my “Post-WOD” snack): More chili. What can I say, it was snowing, and there are few things better than chili when it’s snowing (except maybe hot chocolate… sigh).

Snack: 1 green apple mixed with about 1/4 cup of canned coconut milk and a dash of cinnamon. I usually hate green apples but this was SO GOOD and I am definitely going to make a habit out of this!

And then… a miracle occurred. Even though we didn’t get to bed until almost midnight last night, I woke up this morning at 6:30, no alarm necessary, full of energy. I even left Brandon in bed and walked through the snow, by myself, to the gym. THIS NEVER HAPPENS. Did I mention it’s snowing and that any rational person would have stayed under the covers for as long as possible? Maybe there is something to this sugar detox business after all.

You are right about that – nothing beats warm chili when it’s snowing! So glad to hear you have more energy!!

That’s awesome! I was wondering whether it was the no grain, no sugar, or no dairy that really had an effect on how well I was sleeping/waking up during Whole30. Since I’m usually okay with dairy (WI native, what up), I figured it was grain/sugar combined. I’ve been focusing on reducing grain again lately after being sick and eating whatever I wanted/refusing to cook. Maybe I should look at sugar again too. :)

Also, feel free to send that snow our way! It made it as far as Minneapolis and then turned to rain for us :(

don’t you stick that knife in your leg with the hot cocoa!

I hear you on the potty-trips, when I switched my husband over to a cooked egg & veggie breakfast (from cereal or scones) he had the poos for nearly two weeks, his body just wasn’t used to that influx of fibre!
They’re predicting snow here for early next week, my area isn’t used to snow at all so it should be complete mayhem and I’ll probably have to walk to work…which I’m kind of looking forward to! Hope you enjoyed your walk to the gym in the snow!
