Blue Suede Shoes and Other Fantastic Things

It’s in the low 50′s today, a wonderful treat after the past 10 days or so of snow and blustery, freezing temps. The stubborn patch of frozen sidewalk that turns walking out of the front door into an Olympic ice skating routine might finally melt today. Birds are chirping, dogs are barking. And I am wearing turquoise suede ankle boots.

blue suede shoes

I am normally not a shoe person, but these are fantastic. They make me want to be friends with me.

Other things that are fantastic:

The 5 bajillion Youtube videos that I watched from the CrossFit HQ channel yesterday. Seriously. I am still so pumped from those.

Hours spent on Pinterest planning to cover my body in amazing tattoos. Sigh.

My dog hopping onto the couch and standing on my chest to tell me that she’s bored. Kind of painful, yet endearing.

Mental muscle-ups. I am pretty sure that I know exactly how to do a muscle-up now that I’ve practiced them 500x inside my mind… Now if I could just get my dang shoulders to come up with a little extra OOMPH…

Pink zebra print wrist wraps. That you may or may not be able to win next week if you’re lucky. Just sayin.

The “flavored with notes of apple” coffee that I’m drinking at the ultra trendy coffee shop I’m currently working from. Tastes the same as non-appley coffee if you ask me, but I feel much more sophisticated anyway.

Tonight we did 10-8-6-4-2 front squats with 2-4-6-8-10 burpees, rest 3 minutes, then 60 slam balls with a 20 pound ball. I used 85 lbs (Rx was 95) and felt pretty good, which is a pretty big deal because the last time I tested my clean & jerk max it was 95 lbs–but I was able to power clean 85 lbs consistently throughout the WOD. Seeing as my OH squat max is also 85# right now, I definitely think it’s time to re-test my maxes!

Tomorrow we are heading into the Team WOD at 9AM, then taking the dog for a big hike and on Sunday I’m going snowshoeing. Spring is not too shabby here in Colorado, folks!

What was awesome about your week? And what are you up to this weekend?

I want to be friends with you too!! :)

I’m jealous about your 50 degree weather. We’re still snowed in :(

I’m incredibly sore from last night’s WOD (2 rounds for time of 100 double unders, 50 push presses (95/65lbs), and 25 toes-to-bar, which for me means “dangle sadly and imagine that you’re moving towards the bar”). Oh, two rounds, okay. Wait… in part because I’m awful at double unders, it took me 49 minutes, and I was only at 50lbs for the push presses. The fastest in our group was around 39 minutes. Ow. On the plus side, I feel awesomely sore today, and I FINISHED, which I didn’t think I was going to after the second set of 100 double unders made me want to puke out my eyes.

On tap for the weekend: helping a friend move, work, more work the next day, hopefully out early for PARKOUR, and then heading off for a mini Sunday-Tuesday vacation (ah, the joys of skipping classes when you’re a fifth-year-senior staring down graduation).

I feel like a failure for working at REI for 3 non-consecutive years and never trying snowshoeing. Maybe I’ll get a chance before our snow melts!

(My comments are almost as long as your blog posts. I need to be home alone less often.)

Hahah Simone I love your comments! My toes to bar are also more like pathetic dangles. And that WOD actually sounds kinda fun… But only because double unders seem to be the ONE thing in CrossFit that I am actually good at! Also I am jealous that you work at REI–you should def get out and give it a shot! It’s really not that different from just, y’know, hiking in the snow, except that you have to get used to not literally tripping over your own feet.

I’ll let you know if I try it!!

Hmm… well, I definitely improved my double unders this time (before I couldn’t get any; last week I think I linked up to 8 in a row a few times, woo!). You’re making me think about what one thing at CrossFit I’m good at… medicine ball slams, maybe. I have no endurance/stamina, but for the brief time I last, I LOVE those things. Make me want to roar. :D

Parkour sounds like fun! (I think – it looks cool anyway!) This weekend, getting ready for taxes – blech. But hey, the beach is a block away and I can take a break. High tomorrow is 76 degrees!!!!!

Thanks, ‘Mom’ :) Parkour is definitely a blast – I just started, and it’s highlighting all my weaknesses — cardio endurance, body awareness/confidence, being off the ground, balance… It’s basically everything I’m NOT a natural at. Awesome!!

Jealous of your weather! We got another 6-8 inches of snow yesterday here in WI!

I agree with Simone, I want to be friends with you too! Sounds like a fun weekend. I hope you kill the WOD this morning and push yourself! :)

    • clairechapman

Thanks Mikayla :) I hope you had a great weekend as well!

    Awesome job on the powercleans!!
