Eating Enough

There is a funny thing that's happened a bit in the corner of the CrossFit blogger world that I live in, and it's that women have not only rejected the idea of a calorie deficit, but have moved to the other side of the spectrum. Instead of fitness bloggers who humblebrag about how little they ate today, CrossFit bloggers post about how MUCH they ate today, how they are still hungry, and how they are going to go make themselves a 1500-calorie bedtime snack because #gainz, y'all. Don't get me wrong, Read more [...]

Anxiety and Blood Sugar

Well, let me cut to the chase: I officially only made it to day 12 of the Sugar Detox. Yep, the day after my last post that was all about toughing it out and sticking to it, I had coconut flour chocolate chip pancakes for lunch. I felt guilty and a little disappointed in myself, because I thought that I could stick to this for 21 days, even if it was rough, and maybe learn a few things about myself, even if nothing else came of it. But, the reason I quit is not quite that simple. On Thursday Read more [...]

21DSD Day 11

You guys! I'm over halfway done with this detox! I'm not gonna lie, this has been harder than I thought it would be, and for different reasons than I was expecting. I know I talked about this last week, but I didn't really realize how much I rely on fruit for snacks and breakfast, and taking that away resulted in several days of just not eating enough. I also was a huge bitch the first 5 days, partly due to PMS but mostly due to low blood sugar as I tried to figure out how to eat. Also, my Read more [...]

2nd Annual Cindy [and 21DSD Day 6]

I am proud to say that last night, Cindy went much better than I thought it was going to. I didn't quite get to my goal of 15 rounds, but I came in at 14+13, which I was happy with. Even more, though, I was super happy with my pull-ups. When we did Murph a few weeks ago, probably 1/4 of my pull-ups would have been counted as no-reps if I hadn't been incapable of doing another rep even if I'd wanted to, but last night my pull-ups felt really good. I still can only link 2 or 3 at a time if I have to Read more [...]

21DSD Day 5

Really this post should be titled Days 4 and 5, because yesterday's "Day 4" post was really about Day 3. But oh well. Yesterday went a little bit downhill after my rise and shine moment in the morning. I got up, had a pretty good lifting sesh, but then came home and had a bit of an emotional crash. While this was mostly hormonal, the sugar detox definitely intensified the issue, as I almost never regularly experience dramatic mood swings with PMS. Hormones are SO FUN, right ladies? Ugh. By Read more [...]

21DSD Day 4

Almost 1/5 of the way done with this dang detox! Can you tell I'm counting the days? To be fair, Day 3 was nowhere near as bad as Day 2. I did find myself, err, running to the bathroom a few times, mostly I think because my body is not used to having such fibrous veggies for breakfast instead of apples and smoothies, but otherwise the day went pretty well. Here is what my menu yesterday looked like: Breakfast: 3 scrambled eggs, sautéed sweet potatoes and asparagus Snack: Almonds Lunch: Read more [...]
